Most of the year, Bad Ischl seems trapped in its imperial past, a nostalgia that can be relaxing at best and soporific at worst. During July and August, however, the spa livens up a bit and presents a well-rehearsed operetta in whichever public building can accommodate it. In the past, The Merry Widow or Johann Strauss’s Der Tzigeunerbaron have been presented 3 nights a week, usually at 8pm. Tickets cost 28€ to 68€ ($45-$109).
