The climate of southwest florida  is subtropical. Generally, humid Gulf breezes and warm temperatures dominate the area, though frosts and even snow flurries have occured there.

On August 13, 2004, Fort Myers_beach was sideswiped by Hurricane Charley, a category 4 hurricane that made landfall north of the area. In 2005, Hurricane Wilma struck south of Naples, but caused extensive damage nonetheless in southwest florida and its southern suburbs. Cold snaps affect the area sometimes in winter, bringing temperatures around freezing.

Getting Around

The best way to get around Fort Myers is by car. With the closest beach about 20 miles south of downtown, a car will facilitate your fun – plus, the alternatives may give you a headache. The available public transportation has a reputation for being inconvenient and unreliable. Also, aside from the tiny historic downtown, travelers say it’s not easy to walk around due to the distance between attractions. To get into town, many visitors fly into Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), located in Fort Myers proper and about a 30-minute drive south of the city center.


City_of_Palms Park is a stadium in Fort Myers, Florida primarily used for baseball, although the City_of_Palms uses the venue for the occasional concert.
